more "small mark" artwork

This little guy is the main character for my book "Small Mark."

Its a story of how God can turn our weakness, fears and frailties into courage and strength.

I've had some interest in the manuscript, but no one has asked to publish it yet.

I found this really cool application for windows called object dock. It basically mimics what I've seen on the mac os, with large animated icons for applications running along the bottom of the screen. The cool thing is that you can easily change the icons for each application. Its supports the .png file format with alpha/transparency.

I made this from scratch in photoshop, no 3-d, really. I thought it turned out pretty well, kinda surprised myself.

couldn't resist another version. . . no more I swear!

here is the final image. I'm just too lazy to finish the weapon. If this were for a client I would, but it aint so. . .

Lately people have been asking about how long a picture took to make. For those who wish to know, this one took about seven or eight hours, start to finish.

starting to noodle and mess with color, value and texture. I don't work that efficiently. I really should just stick to a well defined process. I just sort of look at the image and try different things and if it works I leave it

a more refined gorilla sketch, I call this technique "beating a drawing into submission"

there are still a lot of problems with this drawing, but hey, its done on the computer so at least I won't erase a hole thru the paper. thanks goodness for wacom tablets!

I'll probably take this and make a cleaner line drawing and then color it in or maybe not.

a few notes, trying not to make the helmet look to much like Tim Burton's designs but its kind of hard to do since gorillas have such tall noggins, kinda weird actually. the weapon is a direct rip-off of an m-79 grenade launcher, but I'll alter it. . . what? you've got to use scrap.

another gorilla sketch, I like this one better, he looks more like a big male silverback gorilla than the last one which was too slender, and human like. I think I'll finish this one . . .

maybe I'll post the different stages I go thru as I make this illustration, uh, maybe

alien kid

various stage
this is a character i thought up.

he is a teenage alien human hybrid created by a super secret govt letter agency. as a baby he was illegally spirited away from an unacknowledged govt facility by a compassionate civilian employee and placed in foster care in an obscure northeastern american town. now as a teenager he doesn't really fit in, but has discovered he has some unusual powers, not the least of which is raising small deceased animals from the dead, and then there are the dreams. . .

this was done for some friends at vicious cycle software

couple more character designs. these are drawings I had done years ago, but wanted to color in

Been working on some character designs focusing on rendering . . .
Just wanted to get started with this blogging thing. Noticed a bunch of very talented artists showcasing their work on blogspot, so I thought I would jump in and start posting some work.

Pictures coming soon. . . .
